The preservation of DTF and sublimation printing quality often involves proper ink storage, which is not always emphasized. This is because they require special care. The viscosity, pigment dispersion, and color performance of high-quality ink can be affected by exposure to excessive heat, cold, sunlight, or contamination. Keeping ink at a consistent level can help to alleviate printing-related issues such as nozzle blockage, uneven color balance, poor inky flow, and print outcomes that differ from each other.
Temperature regulation is a crucial factor. A good storage temperature range of 15-25°C (59-77°F) is suitable for most DTF inks, whereas certain sublimation inkers may have their own storage requirements as per the manufacturer's recommendations. Never leave ink outside of windows, heaters, dryers or any other heat source and never allow it to freeze. To ensure adequate storage, it is important to adhere to the temperature range specified on the product label or technical data sheet when storing ink, and to keep it tightly sealed to prevent light and dust. After opening a bottle, close the cap immediately and store upright in preferably dark, clean and dry place. Ink deterioration can be expedited by exposure to direct sunlight or unsuitable conditions for extended periods, and dust or other contaminants can eventually penetrate the ink and impact the printhead. Stores with extremely humid conditions can take additional measures by installing a clean enclosed storage cabinet.
Give special attention to white DTF ink. White ink has a high pigment content, which can cause it to settle during storage. To maintain a more uniform suspension, you can use gentle pressure relief or follow the printer manufacturer's recommended circulation method. It is not recommended to shake with an excessive amount of force, unless the ink supplier has made it clear that this could result in bubbles and delayed inking. Furthermore, effective inventory management can greatly decrease waste production. Prior to use, ensure that the production date, expiration date and bottle condition are checked; mark the opening date on containers; or use older stock before restocking. Refrain from mixing various ink brands or formulations just because they have different chemical compositions. Keep in mind that the storage instructions provided with your DTF or sublimation ink are crucial because recommended conditions and usable life may vary among different formulations. Stable temperature, proper sealing and protection from light and contamination as well as sensible stock rotation will help preserve ink and ensure more reliable printing.
