Summary of ink safety issues in Printing ink
The fabric ink that can be printed directly on the fabric may be pigment based or dye based. Pigment ink is very similar to the ink used for printing on coating film or paper. It contains Adhesive like "latex" to improve the durability of ink on fabrics. Dye based ink is another situation. Depending on the type of fibers, they may contain sublimation dyes (small molecule Disperse dye). Disperse dye inks are used for printing on Synthetic fiber, Reactive dye inks are used for printing on cellulose fabrics such as cotton, and acid dye inks are used for printing on nylon and silk fabrics requiring bright colors.
The sublimation dye must be heated after printing to diffuse into Synthetic fiber (usually polyester). Dyes that cannot fully diffuse to the fibers must be washed off from the fabric. There are no chemical reactions in this process, so no harmful byproducts will be produced. Whether it is transferred from paper or printed directly, the materials used are basically the same. Undiffused dyes can cause irritation to the skin, so if used in clothing production, washing them off from the fabric is a very important step. If the graphics will be used for signage or exhibitions, there is no need to clean them.

Acid dyes and Reactive dye react with fibers and attach them to the fabric by chemical reaction, just like printing and dyeing on traditional fabrics. Pre treatment and post treatment are required to achieve effective chemical reactions. Unreacted dyes, reaction by-products, and pre-treatment materials should be removed after treatment to ensure that these materials do not remain on the fabric. In traditional simulation printing, manufacturers often wash off dyes that have not fully reacted or diffused after printing and dyeing to avoid adding dyes to their wastewater. That's why the clothing you purchase, especially dyed polyester, should be cleaned separately first to remove undiffused dyes.
Water-based fabric ink is an environmentally friendly printing ink that does not contain harmful substances in its chemical composition. It is water-based and environmentally friendly, odorless and non-toxic, with advantages such as bright colors, high color rendering, and stable colors. Water based fabric ink is applicable to almost all printing equipment and materials. The following are some common printing machines using water based fabric ink:
1. Flatbed printing machine: Flatbed printing machine is a printing equipment designed specifically for printing flat objects. Water based fabric ink can adapt well to the requirements of flat printing, and can print high-quality and high saturation images and text.
2. Screen printing machine: Screen printing machine is an important printing equipment commonly used for printing T-shirts, hats, socks, and other fabric products. The viscosity and adhesion of water based fabric ink on screen printing machines can meet printing requirements.
3. Transfer machine: The transfer machine quickly transfers colored patterns into the T-shirt through heat transfer printing. Water based fabric ink can maintain a long-lasting printing effect that does not fade, fade, or damage even at high temperatures.
4. Digital inkjet printer: Digital inkjet printer is a high-speed and precise printing device commonly used for digital printing of fabrics. Water based fabric ink prints images on digital inkjet printers with bright colors and high image clarity, allowing for the production of high-quality patterns on fabric surfaces.
5. Dry toner printing machine: Dry toner printing machine uses dry toner to heat and fuse with the fabric to produce a bonding effect, and can be fixed on the fabric. Water based fabric ink produces excellent image effects on dry toner printing machines, with high color saturation and high pattern clarity.
In summary, Water based fabric ink is suitable for most printing equipment and materials. Moreover, it has environmental protection advantages, is safe and reliable, and is suitable for various fabrics. It is widely used in the printing production of various textile products such as T-shirts, shirts, hats, bags, bedding, and curtains.
